I’m not too particular when it comes to campgrounds. I expect to be closer to my neighbors that I prefer to be and realize there’s a possibility that we could be next to loud obnoxious people. That wasn’t the case at Wall Doxey State Park, nope, just a warning on the bulletin board about water contamination and a washing machine that was filled up with water and wouldn’t drain. Well, let’s find another site, shall we hun?

The kids survived the snake infested waters, so I guess we should take them to go do something educational and fun. Let’s head to Memphis TN and check out the Pink Palace Museum (another partner for our ASTC membership passes).

He is risen!!! Jen whipped up a resurrection cake with the kids. Not having an oven and being as resourceful as she is, it was a rice crispy cake! The kids were great helpers and helped shape the cakes into their molds and also decorated, of course.

We had done all the touristy things yesterday, but as the kids were getting sworn in by the park ranger, she asked them if they were coming back for Jr. Ranger day, where they could get a special badge for completing a scavenger hunt. Well, we’re suckers for Jr. Ranger swag and have the rest of the year ahead of us, so we stayed another night (which meant we spent some more time with our friends at camp) and headed back to Fordyce to pick up our marching orders.

The rain finally relented and we headed back into town to visit a unique National Park. This one is surrounded by hustle and bustle and you’re much more likely to get run over by a car than you are to see any wild life. We had come to Hot Springs National Park, and were happy to be there.

When the whether rolls in and you live in a van, cabin fever can start to set in. But when you happen to be at Cedar Glades Park, you’ve got nothing to worry about. The morning was chilly, so being impatient, I told Jen to go ahead and start the toast while I was already heating the water for coffee. Hmmm…. What’s that smell, on no, there’s smoke….

I caught up on my sleep, the laundry, and we were ready for more adventure. So we struck camp at Chicot State Park and headed North to Arkansas. We stopped at a Walmart to grab some supplies (hard to miss our van in most parking lots).

One of the things we like to do while we’re on this adventure, is not rush things. If we find a place that’s comfortable or we want to explore some more, we do that. This spot was one of those places, quiet, comfortable, and very pretty (picturesque forrest setting). So we stayed another night! 🙂

Flying back into NoLa, I took a Lyft ride back to the KOA where the family was stying while I was “playing” in Virginia. We got checked out of the site and headed Northwest to Chicot State Park where we tucked into a very nice site. This place was empty and quiet, and had free washing machines!

I was blessed to have the opportunity to fly to Virginia and take part in a weekend make event where 5 teams each took on a challenge to develop a solution for a person living with a disability. The projects ranged from a column of shelves the swivel out to enable a young wheelchair user to access more of his things to an active muscle sensor that can vibrate muscles that are tense when they shouldn’t be (this is for therapeutic treatment to enable a young lady to make progress in her therapy sessions and provides feedback to her therapists).
