April 2- Moving East in Louisiana

This was about as low key of a “travel” day as we get. We went from one beautiful spot in Louisiana to another. The first was just a spot we found on iOverlander inside a wildlife refuge along a river. It was a good quite night, but a couple large lawn mowers came by in the morning and asked us kindly to move on down the road as there was a designated camping site further into the refuge. We considered, but ultimately moved on further East towards New Orleans.

We pulled into Baton Rouge crossing over the mighty Mississippi River and then drove South alongside it to the BREC Equestrian Center where they have numerous spots that were quite vacant for the day but looking forward to a busy weekend as LSU had some events on the calendar that they said would fill up their spaces. We claimed a spot that wasn’t too muddy (the Mississippi was near flood level from all the rains up North).

The spot we chose had water, electricity, a picnic table, and a tree that provided ample shade during the day and a fixed point to hang both our hammocks from utilizing a couple points on the van for the other side. This gave the kids a place to play as there wasn’t a playground here.
